Background

The project is a conservation initiative by the Nature Conservancy of Canada to protect over 4,000 acres of significant habitat within the Ottawa Lowlands. The goal is to create a wildlife corridor adjoining Gatineau Park to the Ottawa River and to protect pastureland for the nationally endangered Eastern Loggerhead Shrike. The 400-acre property that we are creating a management framework for is a part of this larger watershed. The NCC has been negotiating with the private landowners of the property to conserve its diverse assemblage of significant habitat types supporting various species of flora and fauna, including 190 bird species, amphibians of special concern, and 390 floral species.
