Client Description:

Eco-Initiatives is a grassroots organization incorporated in 1997 to address social and environmental issues in Montreal's Notre-Dame-de-Grāce area. The primary concern of the organization include food security, community solidarity, and environmental awareness. Eco-Initiatives has sought to address these issues through the activities of their Victory Garden network which provides volunteer gardening opportunities, educational opportunities, and locally-produced, high-quality organic produce to the local community. The research outline included in these pages addresses the organization's in determining the possibility of developing and maintaining an economically self-sufficient greenhouse for growing organic seedlings, herbs, and native ornamental plants in Montreal as an extension of the existing Victory Garden Network. The greenhouse will provide training and skills in urban organic agriculture to interested community volunteers, as well as extending the client's work in food security and urban poverty alleviation.
